Watching & Listening
Everything Rubens

My master and his nymph by Dirk Huyghe

Dirk Huyghe

The Elewijt villager, Hendrik Van Ham, is employed as a courier at the Steen when Rubens spends his last years there. With this fictional story grafted onto historical facts, he wants to give us access to the castle in the mid-17th century. In his memoir, the courier reports on his experiences, what he sees and feels, and discusses and interprets paintings by his master.

Author and illustrator Dirk Huyghe was coordinator of the graphics editorial department at the newspaper De Standaard. He published 'Ave Magistra Hildegard, Novitius, a quest in code' about a journey to Hildegard of Bingen (2017), Emblemata (2019), 'Of the Lamb of God beaten' (2020), 'Journey to the unseen', a travelogue from 532, based on the story of Brandaan (2021).

He studied at Sint-Lukas Brussels - LUCA School of Arts. His work enjoys international recognition. In Tokyo, he was awarded the Gold Medal for his work by the daily Yomiuri Shimbun. At the International Festival in Knokke, he received several awards including the press prize. He regularly exhibits his (free plastic) work.

This book Presentation will conclude with a performance by the Elewijts Bach Choir
