The Pavilion

The icing on the cake of this first edition of Stories Unfold?

That would be the architectural pavilion that houses our hospitality facilities and a stage, connecting people to each other and to nature. During the construction of the pavilion, the highest sustainability standards were observed.

The temporary pavilion was designed by the ConstructLab + 019 collective and serves as the backdrop for a diverse and inspiring programme, together with the rest of the venue. The fact that all materials are rented and will be put to good use again after Stories Unfold is worth mentioning, as is the composition and use of different types of eco-friendly materials.

DOKA, our main partner when it came to setting up the structure, provided a steel formwork system that is typically used on very big construction sites. The formwork system supports the pavilion itself, as well as the stairs, terrace and roof.

The pavilion rests on screw piles that are wound into the ground much like a screw into wood. This minimises the environmental impact, because it eliminates the need for pouring a concrete foundation. After Stories Unfold, the screws will be neatly removed, leaving no trace whatsoever.

Finally, the pavilion walls consist of classic formwork panels that are normally used to pour concrete. These smooth panels now serve as a framework for the surroundings and to bring the outdoors indoors.

The pavilion is the beating heart of Stories Unfold, a hub for all our experiments, and the centre of the festival.
